Jelly Jar Centennial Milestone
Growing up I've always loved the segment of the Today Show that highlighted 100th birthday milestones. Each centennial's picture was placed on a Smuckers Jelly Jar and Al Roker would read their hobbies and current locations. Belive it or not this was the motivational push that inspired me to start a wellness conscious lifestyle.
For some, this might sound far fetched however my grandmother was 102 years old and her sister was 106 before they became heavenly ancestors. Although genetic longevity is a good start I understand maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a must. Only appropriate to insert a random southern saying...Lord willing and the creek don't rise. If I'm honest I've never gotten an explanation on the creek rising part. Tell me in the comment if you know LOL
Okay so your probably wondering what my plan is. Five years ago I became a Flexitarian and yes it's a real word LOL. I made the choice to minimize meat and dairy products. As we all know they are directly linked to heart disease, inflammation, obesity, cancers and among others not mentioned. My first major step was eliminating pork and beef. In the beginning I mourned the loss of crispy bacon, Puerto Rican peril and pork fried rice but that feeling is since long gone at this point. When people ask, I proudly say I only eat fins and feathers.
I'm not going to lie I am a food at heart, tell the truth and shame the devil. It's been a daily conscious effort to minimize my dairy intake. Ya girl loves cheese! I have completely cut out cow's milk and yogurt with replaced it with almond milk and by doing I have noticed a significant improvement with adult acne and bloating.
Wellness has a major part in longevity. A body in motion stays in motion. Having a fitness watch has helped me to keep track of my steps per day. I find that I get the best night's sleep when I workout. My siblings and I are competitive in everything we do so t's not uncommon to humble brag our steps. Of course being the youngest I have an obligation to keep them on their toes LOL
Everyone's journey is their own. Being a centennial is the goal but I also want to have complete quality of life with all my mental and physical facilities. Hopefully the Today Show will still highlight centennials by the time I turn 100 years old. My Smuckers Jar highlight will read, Nikko Fisher turned 100 years old! She likes to travel, hike, play tennis and lives in Texas. What will yours say?
