Metabolism in your 40's

Image
Congratulations we have made it past the Thanksgiving feast or if you're in my boat...feasts. I had a full Friendsgiving spread the week before the traditional Thanksgiving gathering this year. I'm starting to rethink going food crazy at the Christmas parties and Christmas dinner that is around the corner. Who else wishes the Thanksgiving and Christmas were spread out with more months in between!      In my late 20’s I started to notice my metabolism slow down. I could no longer eat whatever I wanted without weight gain. This is coming from a person who was so skinny that I would pray for weight gain. No lie, there were times when I thought the calories from the Big Mac with extra sauce were broken. Fortunately I started to take exercising and food choices more seriously before diabetes, high blood pressure or something worse were even a factor.       Sure my lifestyle change was so that I could fit in my jeans but also so I can avo...

To Class Reunion or Nah

Image
This Fall I attended my college homecoming. I still cant believe it's been 18 years since I graduated. Time really does fly! Being on campus brings back both the fun and the academic stressful memories that college life entails. I don't always make it every year but I’m glad when I do. I live for the alumni swag bags and catching up with old classmates.  My homecoming includes a huge catered tailgate party in the parking lot before the big D2 class soon to be D1 class football game. Don’t ask, I never know who we play until I get the tickets…this is least important info LOL. This year we shared a table with new graduates who were shocked to hear we were roommates from the graduating classof 04'. Does anyone else keep in touch with their roommates? Social media definitely makes it easier now a days. Not me sounding like an old lady LOL! I'm almost positive work, life and distance play a part in attendance. Let’s be honest, some people find it underwhelming to attend clas...

Connecticut Bucketlist Ideas (Adventurous Edition 2022)

Image
Material things are awesome but there's something to be said about the long lasting memories! In my opinion this separates living vs existing. Save your coins because some of these adventures are pricey. Without further ado! Skydive Danielson  $$$ Danielson,Ct   Score: 10/10  By far my most adventurous bucket list item. The staff was professional and well experienced! I flew solo otherwise I'd still  be waiting for a partner LOL. This was an experience of a lifetimeđź’• Thrillz High Flying Adventure Park  $ Danbury, Ct Score: 10/10 Signs of a good time is when your cheeks and stomach hurt from laughing...this is the place! Smash Avenue Foxwoods   $$$ Ledyard, Ct Score: 8/10 Nothing better than a little demolition to destress! I was sweating under the jacket so dress lightly when you go. Make sure to requested a mirror this was hands down my favorite thing to smash! The Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum  $ Bridgeport...

Jelly Jar Centennial Milestone

Image
Growing up I've always loved the segment of the  Today Show  that highlighted 100th birthday milestones. Each centennial's picture was placed on a Smuckers Jelly Jar and Al Roker would read their hobbies and current locations. Belive it or not this was the motivational push that inspired me to start a wellness conscious lifestyle. For some, this might sound far fetched however my grandmother was 102 years old and her sister was 106 before they became heavenly  ancestors. Although genetic longevity is a good start I understand maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a must. Only appropriate to insert a random southern saying...Lord willing and the creek don't rise. If I'm honest I've never gotten an explanation on the creek rising part. Tell me in the comment if you know LOL Okay so your probably wondering what my plan is.  Five years ago I became a Flexitarian  and yes it's a real word LOL. I made the choice to minimize meat and dairy products. As we all ...

The Big E Fair is a New England fall must do

Image
My favorite season is Summer but the one thing that ushers in a fun transition into Fall is the Big E Fair located in West Springfield, MA. I'm literally like a kid in the candy store. It is an annual fair that starts mid-September and runs for several weeks. I like riding on the ferris wheel, watching concerts and parades,  car shows, vendor shopping and strolling by the animal/arts & craft competitions. However if I’m keeping it a buck...the highlight is arriving in stretchy legging pants and sneakers to find and eat the unique food! Yes you heard me right I'm there for an epic cheat day! Just imagine the Six Flags of fairs where you actually need a map to get around. Grab a pen and get ready for the ultimate Big E Fair hack. You won't catch me there on the weekends only weekdays because this is the best time to avoid traffic, large crowds and more importantly long food lines. During peak times there is limited seating to rest, eat and enjoy the live ent...

Yet She Evolves

Image
So you’re probably wondering how I waited until age 40 to start a blog. Well the short answer is life kept “life-ing” in a rinse repeat cycle of forgetting to set aside time. Growing up I remember hearing older friends and family say how they always wanted to do this or that but never got around to it. I decided that I would be “different” and write down all the things that I’ve ever want to do and then check them off as I go. If this unoriginal concept sounds familiar that's because this was my version of a bucket list . Keeping mind I was only 22 years old at the time so it was never a list of things to do before I die but simply a reminder to live life in between the monotonous work/life balance. Yet She Evolves blog was inspired when I realized my weekend adventures, vacations, Sunday Fundays and spontaneous selfies inspired people to explore more. I’ve always prioritized time to do the things that challenge me, relax me, make me smile or my personal favorite...the things the m...
