Pumpkin vs Sweet potatoes

Image
You’ve read the title and with Thanksgiving in our rear view mirror…let’s debate. Did your Thanksgiving dessert table have pumpkin or sweet potato pie? Maybe you attended a neutral turkey day gathering where both pies were present? I have so many questions. This year, I went to my first Friendsgiving. It was definitely something I hope we keep up each year. I brought the potato salad and sat my store bought sweet potato pie next to the pumpkin pies.       After talking to my coworkers I’ve some to the realization that some people have never had sweet potato pie. Having a southern mama pumpkin pie wasn’t something I had until my college room mate introduced me it.  Is it a cultural thing? Curious minds what to know.     Let’s state the obvious, both are orange in color. Sweet potato is naturally sweeter, richer and more flavorful while pumpkin tends to be a bit bland in comparison. Pumpkin pie is creamer, healthier but its dense texture lacks the soulful taste. I am team sweet pota

This Fall I attended my college homecoming. I still cant believe it's been 18 years since I graduated. Time really does fly! Being on campus brings back both the fun and the academic stressful memories that college life entails. I don't always make it every year but I’m glad when I do. I live for the alumni swag bags and catching up with old classmates.  My homecoming includes a huge catered tailgate party in the parking lot before the big D2 class soon to be D1 class football game. Don’t ask, I never know who we play until I get the tickets…this is least important info LOL. This year we shared a table with new graduates who were shocked to hear we were roommates from the graduating classof 04'. Does anyone else keep in touch with their roommates? Social media definitely makes it easier now a days. Not me sounding like an old lady LOL! I'm almost positive work, life and distance play a part in attendance. Let’s be honest, some people find it underwhelming to attend clas

I went on vacation to Ft Lauderdale and couldn't wait to visit Daniel Poppers 14 ton concrete art piece. After a day at the beach we made a pit stop to 300 SW 1st Avenue. This did not disappoint! The picture doesn't do it any justice. This gorgeous 28 ft tall art is called "Thrive" and was installed in 2020. Put this on your to do list!

My favorite Connecticut hiking trails

Image
I may not be a fan of bugs but nothing outweighs sunshine and fresh air on a good hike. Every year I feel like hiking season starts and ends so fast especially when the New England cold frost arrives. This doesn’t stop others but this brings my participation to a screeching halt. I definitely have a temperature cut off. LOL Ct has quite a nice mix dirt and paved trails. Might sound corny but my favorite ones have a stone castle or tower at the top of the hike, this is my reward. LOL Here's a list of my favorite places to hike and make sure to let me know if you've explored these hidden CT gems! Next year I will make it my mission to explore the hiking trails outside my area. If you have any recommendations let me know in the comment section!
