Dating a dog mom in 2023

Is it just me?

When dating a new interest their physical looks get you the first date but compatibility will have us at our second date. If I’m interested I’ll ask questions that give me insight on who that person is. And yes, it is important to share whether my intentions are to hang out or to pursue a relationship. There is also one unexpected thing that is make or break to this process since becoming a single dog mom. I will forever refuse a love interest who doesn’t like pets.

Have I always been like this?

Short answer is no. You’ll never know the bond between a dog mom if you’ve never experienced it yourself. Before I got my dog many years ago I had relatives who weren’t too keen on dogs until they met my dog. There are two different types of people. The ones who have never had the opportunity and those who mistrust all pets. We all know someone who’s had a traumatic bite experience that makes them hesitant to meet a new dog but I’m not speaking on the trauma related mistrust.

I’ve had a guest come visit me who didn’t like pets. This blog is inspired by this visit. LOL! Back to my story…so when they arrived they greet me, took off their shoes and proceeded to ignore my fur baby. I have a friendly 9lb yorkie who naturally greets people when I greet people. My yorkie approaches with his tail wagging and ready to be acknowledged. With that being said, if I was a dog mom to an unpredictable, overly protective pet, it is my responsibility to keep them separate from guests. Yes the pet lives there but the guests safety and mental health are also a concern. If my fur baby, who likes to play and be center of attention if doing too much I will correct that behavior on the spot. All I’m saying is, as a guest in a dog mom’s home…be polite and greet them. I don’t expect you to roll around on the floor and play but be polite. I am definitely taking notice. 

So what now?

If your potential love interest is always talking about their pets and calls them fur babies make sure you understand that they are a package deal. All that is required is to acknowledge them and respect their bond even if you don’t understand it. Just be prepared to be step daddy to a fur animal if  he/she is the one you would like to spend your time with. After all, there are plenty of other potential pet less mates out there. Choose wisely because us pet mom are.

Jelly Jar Centennial Milestone

Growing up I've always loved the segment of the  Today Show  that highlighted 100th birthday milestones. Each centennial's picture was placed on a Smuckers Jelly Jar and Al Roker would read their hobbies and current locations. Belive it or not this was the motivational push that inspired me to start a wellness conscious lifestyle. For some, this might sound far fetched however my grandmother was 102 years old and her sister was 106 before they became heavenly  ancestors. Although genetic longevity is a good start I understand maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a must. Only appropriate to insert a random southern saying...Lord willing and the creek don't rise. Viral TikTok Filter Stirs Up Mixed Reactions!!

What's the fuss? The first Tiktok filter is called, Teenage, which shows a split screen of a “younger” version of you and what you currently look like today. Apparently it has been a trigger for some app users especially for those who had difficult teenage years. Initially I thought the reactions were because they were distraught about how they've aged. Then I stumbled across a reaction of a crying lady who saw the troubled teenage version of herself. The other TikTok filter is called, Bold Glamour. This filter includes a full coverage makeup that includes lashes, highlights, deep contouring and for some people it chisels your jawline. The complaint is how the masculine jaw alteration makes them feel self conscious about the results.  I’m sure there will be more social media filters to enjoy and scrutinize. I can attest they definitely keep things interesting! One could only hope that those who were struggling with the past see this as a gateway to professional counseling.  -Ni
