Pumpkin vs Sweet potatoes

Image
You’ve read the title and with Thanksgiving in our rear view mirror…let’s debate. Did your Thanksgiving dessert table have pumpkin or sweet potato pie? Maybe you attended a neutral turkey day gathering where both pies were present? I have so many questions. This year, I went to my first Friendsgiving. It was definitely something I hope we keep up each year. I brought the potato salad and sat my store bought sweet potato pie next to the pumpkin pies.       After talking to my coworkers I’ve some to the realization that some people have never had sweet potato pie. Having a southern mama pumpkin pie wasn’t something I had until my college room mate introduced me it.  Is it a cultural thing? Curious minds what to know.     Let’s state the obvious, both are orange in color. Sweet potato is naturally sweeter, richer and more flavorful while pumpkin tends to be a bit bland in comparison. Pumpkin pie is creamer, healthier but its dense texture l...

To Class Reunion or Nah

This Fall I attended my college homecoming. I still cant believe it's been 18 years since I graduated. Time really does fly! Being on campus brings back both the fun and the academic stressful memories that college life entails. I don't always make it every year but I’m glad when I do. I live for the alumni swag bags and catching up with old classmates.  My homecoming includes a huge catered tailgate party in the parking lot before the big D2 class soon to be D1 class football game. Don’t ask, I never know who we play until I get the tickets…this is least important info LOL. This year we shared a table with new graduates who were shocked to hear we were roommates from the graduating classof 04'. Does anyone else keep in touch with their roommates? Social media definitely makes it easier now a days. Not me sounding like an old lady LOL! I'm almost positive work, life and distance play a part in attendance. Let’s be honest, some people find it underwhelming to attend clas...

My favorite Connecticut hiking trails

Image
I may not be a fan of bugs but nothing outweighs sunshine and fresh air on a good hike. Every year I feel like hiking season starts and ends so fast especially when the New England cold frost arrives. This doesn’t stop others but this brings my participation to a screeching halt. I definitely have a temperature cut off. LOL Ct has quite a nice mix dirt and paved trails. Might sound corny but my favorite ones have a stone castle or tower at the top of the hike, this is my reward. LOL Here's a list of my favorite places to hike and make sure to let me know if you've explored these hidden CT gems! Next year I will make it my mission to explore the hiking trails outside my area. If you have any recommendations let me know in the comment section! Take care of your tatas

We are quickly approaching the end of October but Breast Cancer Awareness doesn’t end there. Turing 40 this year ushered in my first mammogram screening. Although I love doing new things this is one that I wasn’t looking forward to but health is wealth. No way I can live to be 110 years old without practicing the very same self care I preach to others. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and I sat by her side through the diagnosis and chemo treatments. Thank goodness she was an advocate for her health otherwise it may have gone undetected. This has been the push to not only get screened but remind others as well.     When my physician recommend my mammogram my whole live literally flashed before my eyes and I wondered how 40 years had flown LOL. I’m not going to lie I immediately became anxiousness from the unknown results. Driving to my appointment I looked over at my unused lotion and deodorant. I was told such items would interfere with the x-ray. My s...

Jelly Jar Centennial Milestone

Image
Growing up I've always loved the segment of the  Today Show  that highlighted 100th birthday milestones. Each centennial's picture was placed on a Smuckers Jelly Jar and Al Roker would read their hobbies and current locations. Belive it or not this was the motivational push that inspired me to start a wellness conscious lifestyle. For some, this might sound far fetched however my grandmother was 102 years old and her sister was 106 before they became heavenly  ancestors. Although genetic longevity is a good start I understand maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a must. Only appropriate to insert a random southern saying...Lord willing and the creek don't rise. If I'm honest I've never gotten an explanation on the creek rising part. Tell me in the comment if you know LOL Okay so your probably wondering what my plan is.  Five years ago I became a Flexitarian  and yes it's a real word LOL. I made the choice to minimize meat and dairy products. As we all ...
